September 15 to October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month! Hispanic culture has had a profound impact on the United States, particularly through the rich history and tradition of coffee grown and harvested across Latin America. At Java Love, we are observing this month by spotlighting a few of our coffee farms in Latin America. The distinct geographical features and cultivation practices of each region produce unique beans that go into every cup of coffee at our New Jersey cafes.
Colombia–Jardin Excelso
Coffee in this Southwest region of Colombia grows at elevations over 1400 meters and has a delicately fruity flavor, with dominant notes of chocolate and caramel.
Guatemala–La Flor del Café
This region of Guatemala is surrounded by three large volcanoes. Roasts from this area have lively acidity, a heavy body, and flavors of fine chocolate, caramel, and smoky rum. A sought-after offering from the small city of Antigua, this coffee has it all.
Costa Rica–Hacienda Río Negro
The farms we source from in Costa Rica grow coffee at around 1000-1250 meters in the Coto Brus region bordering Panema. This silky, medium-bodied cup offers a lively balance of sweet tangerines, delicate notes of honey, and a rich, milk chocolate finish.
Honduras–18 Rabbit Cooperative
The women-led 18 Rabbit Cooperative operates in the mountains of Marcala, La Paz. It's grown using organic farming practices and carefully processed using the Black Honey method. Slow drying with fruit sugars left on the seed creates exceptional sweetness, balance, and floral complexity.
It’s important to acknowledge where our coffee comes from and honor the people whose hard work makes every cup possible. At Java Love, we strive for ethical and sustainable sourcing across all of our producer partnerships. This means guaranteeing a fair, livable wage that exceeds standard market rates, ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for farm laborers, and a commitment to the ecological preservation of the land.
