An inside look at Jodie and Kristine’s Chateau getaway at Root and Rise.
Want to know what co-owners and partners Jodie and Kristine do when they’re not running Java Love? This July, they took a well-deserved week off in the French countryside to attend Root and Rise creative camp retreat. The camp takes place in a beautiful and peaceful 17th-century chateau, a perfect backdrop for slowing down and expressing creativity. At Java Love, we're always inspired by opportunities that bring people together, and Root and Rise is a wonderful example of how creativity can foster community. Throughout the week, Jodie and Kristine had the chance to share their own passions while learning from others in an environment centered on curiosity, collaboration, and rest.
During the week-long experience, Kristine taught courses on coffee, spreading the Java Love across the world to France and connecting people over a shared appreciation for great coffee and conversation. Meanwhile, Jodie led collage workshops, embracing her creative side through junk journaling exercises.
The camp is designed to foster a welcoming space for women and non-binary adults to find community, explore the arts, and prioritize self-care. They mirror our values of creating safe and inclusive spaces. Their mission is to build “a place where you can arrive exactly as you are and feel the support of those who came before you”. Similarly, we hope that at all of our Java Love cafes, everyone feels welcomed, supported, and celebrated. Whether you're meeting a friend, working on a creative project, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with your favorite drink, we hope every visit feels like you've found a place where you belong.
