This delicious drink is not only heart warming but also packed with health benefits that will keep you coming back for more. September 21st, National Chai Day, founded in 2018 by ©SomruS. They wanted to create a day celebrating Chai’s powerful taste and numerous health benefits. And with that, I bring you this article. Happy National Chai Day… I hope you celebrate accordingly and stop by one of our Java Love Locations or order online our Organic Masala Chai!
Masala Chai originated in India, blending black tea with a mix of aromatic spices and herbs, and was traditionally used as a healing Ayurvedic drink before gaining global popularity. With its complex flavor profile, it’s a drink that’s sugar and spice (and everything nice). And just like the Powerpuff Girls, this drink is a super blend that packs a punch of antioxidants and health benefits without compromising on taste. So without further ado… let's get into it!
The main component of this drink is the base, black tea. Black tea is fabulous for a slow and steady caffeine release. This tea contains something called L-Theanine, an amino acid found in the leaves of the Camellia sinensis tea plant, that enables a “chill” caffeine experience. If you want an invigorating caffeine experience, minus the jitters or the crash, black tea is what you need! In the rich spices incorporated, the blend of cardamom, star anise, cinnamon, clove, ginger and black pepper.
Cardamom helps with digestion and soothes your stomach and lungs. Star anise fights germs and supports gut health. Cinnamon lowers blood sugar and supports heart health with its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Clove soothes pain and promotes oral health with its natural compounds. Ginger eases nausea, helps digestion, and reduces pain. Black pepper boosts nutrient absorption and metabolism. I wasn’t kidding when I said it was a super blend of healthy goodness!
Celebrate National Chai Day, or any day, with a soul-nourishing cup of Masala Chai on cool autumn days, and embrace all the equinox has to offer.
