At Java Love, we don’t just use “ethically sourced” as a marketing grab. We do the work to make sure our coffee comes from farms that treat the land and the workers with respect. Java Love has certifications from Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, and the Cafe Feminino Foundation. This means our beans are obtained through equitable trade relationships, environmentally sustainable farming, and support for women in coffee-harvesting communities. Our owners, Jodie and Kristine, even visited coffee farms in Costa Rica to ensure these certifications were authentic and the coffee was truly ethically sourced.
Our new beans, Honduras Marcala La Paz, is a special reserve coffee from Cafe Kreyol, an independent direct trade partnership with a passion for the environment and the people behind the beans. The Honduras bean comes from a small, woman-owned and operated farm focused on specialty coffee. It is run by Señora Flhor, her mother, and 11 other members of her immediate and extended family. Cafe Kreyol prioritizes strong relationships with farmers, and out of that, they get incredible coffee. There is no large international exporting conglomerate behind our coffee. We can trace every bean back to the farmers in two steps.
The second-highest cost for farmers, after labor, is certification. Even though it’s not mandatory, Cafe Kreyol goes the extra mile to secure it for their farmers, while paying them 300% more than the Fair Trade certification requires. With these ethics, they provide a consistently high-quality product that serves the local community and environment in Honduras.
You can order the Honduras roast in our stores or online and support small farms, now knowing exactly what we mean by ethically sourced.
